Student Injuries
Minor injuries: (e.g. a scraped knee) will be treated by a staff member. If the student is in Primary school, the teacher will share information of what happened if the issue is significant enough. This would usually be mentioned in an email or call. Older students can communicate to their parents directly.
More serious injuries: (e.g. a head injury, a serious cut) will be treated by a staff member and every attempt will be made to contact you regarding the situation. In the case of a medical emergency, we will attempt to inform you and medical/professional assistance will be requested. The order of these latter two steps will be determined by the circumstances. In all cases, the school will make contact with you after the fact to make sure you are aware.
If a student suffers a head injury of any sort, we will enact our Concussion Protocol and begin to follow the steps to assess and address this specific head trauma. Recovery from a concussion is a very prescriptive process and we will ensure that families, the school, and medical professionals work together to create a Return to School Plan. Parents can rest assured that the proactive steps and measures that make up the Return to School Plan will result in a return to normal activities as soon as possible.
Please keep the information current on your child’s Student Information Form by informing your child's homeroom teacher and/or secretary, as changes are required. In the event that no one can be contacted at home or at work, school personnel will admit a child to the clinic or a hospital if deemed necessary.
