Anaphylaxis Plan of Care (Sabrina's Law)
InnovOak School operates under a "nut-sensitive" policy due to the prevalence of nut allergies among our students. It's important to recognize that while we strive to create a safe environment, we cannot guarantee the absence of nut oils or traces of nuts in any food brought into the building by students, families, staff, or rental groups. This is because doing so would create a false sense of security and potentially endanger those managing nut allergies.
To maintain the safest possible environment, we require all students to refrain from bringing allergy-sensitive products into the school. Staff members promptly remove any snacks that may pose a risk to others, particularly those with obvious allergenic contents. For classrooms where a student has a life-threatening nut allergy, the classroom teacher, in consultation with parents, school support staff, and custodial staff, establishes stringent guidelines.
These guidelines include ensuring that the classroom is allergen-free, which may require students to be extra vigilant in choosing snacks. By sensitizing and educating all classmates about the risks and precautions, we create a supportive environment where peers act as a buffer, reducing the likelihood of accidental exposure and ensuring a safe experience for the child with the allergy.
Each fall or upon registration, families that have a child with anaphylaxis should contact the office to obtain the appropriate medical forms. With the implementation of Sabrina's Law, families now must have their child's condition and safety needs verified by a medical doctor. Contact the office for further discussions on how we work with you to keep your child as safe as possible.
Plans of Care are implemented when a student has a serious medical condition. Please consult with your health care provider so that we can have any particular direction that is required. We do ask for a provider signature to review the medication, its administration, and other life saving details
We do ask for an up to date signature from a health care provider for obvious reasons. The signature can be from any visit within the past year and we suggest you update this provider information when attending for other reasons
