Work Completion and Work Quality Issues
Students are given homework, tasks and assignments to practice their learning, show what they know and provide evidence for teachers to ensure there is a consistent level of achievement documented for grading and credits.
Work completion issues usually arise from time management or engagement issues. Work is handed in late, not handed in at all. It may be rushed, or someone else’s work. The common denominator is lack of effort, time management issues along with distractions, other commitments, or inability to plan and chunk work and create finished products
If students cannot manage time or priorities, then work issues will present themselves. Many poor academic choices are rooted in learning skills issues which present as:
Procrastination
Incomplete homework
Forgotten work and assignments
Not studying for assessments
Not Following Instruction
Handing work in Late, or not at all
Cheating on assignments and test
Plagiarism of work to meet a deadline
Use of AI to avoid the needed time to complete an assignment
Students who are excited and engaged to come to a class or participate in a course have little issues with learning skills. This is often why students succeed in specialized programs – because they enjoy the subject and enjoy the material.
Teachers constantly look to engage and reengage students in learning. By offering differentiated learning, voice and choice of assessments, along with hands on learning (simulations, real life problems and collaborative problem solving) that allows students to become more actively involved. InnovOak teachers are constantly looking to upgrade their lessons, plan for timely real world learning and spontaneously teach to the moment. Teachers who excel at this can individualize the learning of an entire class, yet continue to keep the focus and flow on the content they have planned.
Teachers will focus on their part of teaching and learning, but students also have parts to play in being accountable for their own learning.
