Senior School Report Cards

Senior School reporting remains in alignment with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and granting of credits that can be placed on the Ontario Student Transcript.

Senior School reporting is based on the following process:

Teachers build their courses following the ideas in Growing Success. This means that students attend classes and complete work to meet the 110 hours needed for a credit. As an inspected school, the senior courses fall under ministry supervision to ensure the integrity of the 110 hours is the same across the province.

The report contains level grades, which reflect the four levels of achievement as directed by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The first report is called a Midterm Report Card. This is issued at the midpoint of the term and gives students and parents/guardians an indication of the student’s performance.

The Midterm report card is based on term work for the first half of the course and a midterm assessment of some sort. The midterm is scheduled for Day 27 or Day 29 of the course.

Teachers will make comments on this report card and students will also be evaluated on their Learning Skills and Work Habits for each subject. Usually there is a close correlation between the course mark and the student’s performance in their Learning Skills and Work Habits.

Each course has a final assessment or collection of assessments that add up to 30 percent of the final grade for the course. The course in total has 58-60 days.

Parents are invited in to see their student’s course teachers for short interviews right after midterm report cards are issued. Teachers will book interviews for all parents even for courses where the student has 99 percent. These interviews will happen right after school and are not scheduled to disrupt the learning calendar for Senior School.

Please see the dates of when reports cards are released and the scheduled interview day on Evaluation and Reporting Dates.

The InnovOak Senior School Midterm and Final Report Cards will have our Proficiency Skills listed - which incorporates the Ontario Skills and then adds four more. Our report cards will show this difference.

Since the OST does not measure Foundational Learning or Ontario Learning Skills, it will remain unchanged.

Students are encouraged to develop and demonstrate increasing responsibility for their own learning as grade levels increase. Such responsibility includes comprehensive and complete communication of academic progress to their parents. Teachers will also notify families of any consistently demonstrated academic, behavioral or learning skill concerns considered in the teacher’s opinion to be consequential. Parents are always encouraged to initiate any concerns in meeting with the teacher and if needed with administration (in writing).

The marks on each Final Report Card are those that will be recorded on the student’s Ontario Student Transcript.

If your student has a failing grade on their midterm report card, the teacher will involve Student Success and you will be asked to discuss this plan when an interview is held. Ongoing communication from the teacher should be expected for the last half of the term to ensure both student and parents understand that the credit is at risk, and the steps required to address this concern.

All report cards, Midterm and Final, will be made available for viewing by parent/guardians. Should parents/guardians have any questions or concerns regarding the progress of the student, they are encouraged to contact the teachers or the Guidance coaches.
