Missed Examinations and Final Assessments

If a student is absent from a scheduled exam or assessment, the student should make every effort to contact the school and state the reason for the absence. When the student returns to the school, they should report directly to the Office.

Students who miss exams due to illness are required to provide a doctor’s note to verify the absence. Formal documentation is needed for credit granting purposes and this documentation is kept in the Ontario Student Record.

Absence because of vacation or work is not a legitimate reason for missing a scheduled exam. No student will be exempted from an exam or given an alternative exam due to work or transportation issues. Students and parents/guardians are asked to schedule flights after the final exam period according to the school academic calendar listed earlier in this document.

For students with legitimate medical issues, documentation and prior course work will help determine next steps. The principal, teacher, and Student Services staff will work together to develop a plan of action if writing the final exam at an alternative time is not a feasible option. Any alterations to the student’s completion of the final exam will be documented and attached to the student’s exam submission. These documents will be held on file for the duration of the student’s enrolment at the school, in order to provide verification of student achievement at a ministry inspection if required.
