Ministry of Education Requirements
Based on the Ontario Ministry of Education Policy/Program Memorandum no. 128: The Provincial Code of Conduct and School Board Codes of Conduct –
A school should be a place that promotes responsibility, civility, and academic excellence in a safe learning and teaching environment. A positive school climate exists when all members of the school community feel safe, comfortable, and accepted. As an inspected Private School, InnovOak School supports the code of conduct legislation as it applies to community standards and the agencies that we deal with. Most of our students will have an understanding of the code and its requirements since it is directly connected to our functioning society. It is rooted in common sense and is referenced in the Ontario Curriculum in regards to Learning Skills, attitudes, and values.
Ontario's provincial code of conduct for the education sector sets clear standards of behaviour that individual school boards must follow. The standards of behaviour in school boards' codes of conduct must also follow the provincial code of conduct.
The code of conduct applies to everyone in the school, including:
students
parents or guardians
volunteers
teachers
early childhood educators
other staff members
The code applies:
on school property
on any school buses
at school-related events or activities
to before and after school programs
in other circumstances that could have an impact on the school climate where students may interact
