Late or Missed Work - Grade 7-12

Appropriate Exceptions

If there are mitigating issues or circumstances, the teacher will use professional judgement to make exceptions to this guideline. Circumstances such as a concussion, verified medical conditions, life altering events, or academic modifications would be appropriate for consideration. Teachers will not grant exceptions for circumstances that a student can control (extra curriculars, trips, lack of sleep, etc). A teacher may consult with Student Success or the Principal if the situation is not clear and there is need for clarity.

Missed Assignments

Each assignment will include a due date that is reasonable and manageable for all students. If a student feels they will be unable to hand in the assignment by the due date, they must speak with the teacher prior to the due date to make appropriate arrangements and set an extension date for accommodation purposes.

Only one extension will be allowed per assignment. After five school days, If the student does not hand in the final product, then a mark will be determined based on the evidence collected from observations / conferencing with him/her.

Missed Tests

  • Each test will be scheduled a minimum of one week in advance

  • If a student is excused from class as a result of illness, they must speak with the teacher to schedule a reasonable time after their return to write an alternate make-up test

  • Tests missed during an unexcused absence will not be made up; the teacher will provide an alternate assessment or task for the student to complete in order to evaluate the missing overall and specific curriculum expectations covered on the test

  • It is the responsibility of the student to check with teachers regarding missed learning and assignments due to absences, in order to develop a plan for submitting missing evidence of learning

  • A student must demonstrate competency in each of the course overall expectations in order to be granted a credit, therefore they may put their course credit in jeopardy by repeatedly missing course summative assessments

  • A parent/guardian must provide a note to indicate that the student was ill and the school may request medical documentation if deemed necessary
