Final Assessments
Many courses use final projects in lieu of a formal exam. These projects have been developed to showcase the skills and learning objectives required for successful completion of a course.
Teachers will outline the success criteria and expectations in the form of an evaluation rubric, checklist, or style guide etc., for any final assessments that will be planned for the course. This information will be included on the course outline when possible. Final assessments or presentations may occur before the final class scheduled during the examination week.
For online courses, the 30 percent final assessment will be a summative evaluation and NOT an exam. If an exam is absolutely needed, proctoring will be required and worked out prior to the exam day.
To maintain the integrity of their courses, Teachers will expect students in their class for the final period to complete final aspects of their coursework – even if there is no formal exam scheduled.
Students are encouraged to develop and demonstrate increasing responsibility for their own learning as grade levels increase. Such responsibility includes comprehensive and complete communication of academic progress to their parents. Teachers will also notify families of any consistently demonstrated academic, behavioral or learning skill concerns considered in the teacher’s opinion to be consequential. Parents are always encouraged to initiate any concerns in meeting with the teacher and if needed with administration (in writing).
