FairTreatment vs Equal Treatment

Behavioral issues are handled based on knowing and understanding the students involved, allowing us to treat each person fairly. Many students perceive equal treatment as the quick solution to injustices, equating fairness with equal punishment. Our staff invest a significant amount of time in processing issues, enabling us to develop a comprehensive understanding of the bigger picture and dynamics at play. We are highly confident that every party in a dispute or issue is treated fairly, and all mitigating circumstances are taken into account. No student is given a free pass or exempt from being held accountable. This process is effective because we take the time to know the student, their strengths, and their needs.

Victims in a situation often seek retribution for what has been done to them. However, there is a delicate balance between seeking restitution, promoting contribution, and avoiding vindictiveness. We work with students who have been wronged to ensure they understand the consequences for the aggressor and to help them realize that consequences are based on the needs of both parties, not just the needs or feelings of the victim.

Fair treatment does not always equate to equal treatment.
