Classroom Management

We believe that the teacher - student relationship is a powerful learning tool. As such, we support teacher decision making that thoughtfully supports the delivery of curriculum, sets a classroom tone, and builds a community of learners. Teachers are empowered to build connected relationships that handle normal learning and minor behaviors within their learning environment.

Teachers will address most day to day behavioral, learning, motivation, and attitudinal issues as they arise. These actions will be carried out with dignity and respect. Teachers may choose a range of interventions that begin with dialogue, minor correction proximity changes, removal of activities, and natural consequences that align to the issue of concern.

If issues are escalating or of an ongoing nature, teachers will begin to connect with parents and guardians to ensure there is ongoing communication and development of plans to ensure poor choices are addressed in a collegial manner.

Teachers will involve Student Services and Administration when issues become disruptive and/or when further supports or expertise is needed. Behavior that immediately crosses the line of possible suspension will involve Student Services and Administration immediately.

Teachers are expected to have ongoing communication with parents and guardians as part of the relationship building with students and families. Parents should expect to know about any behavioral or performance issues long before they affect the ability to acquire a credit. When a course is completed, parents and students should not be surprised at the final mark on a report card.

InnovOak School places a high degree of importance on a nurturing and non disruptive classroom environment. Teachers will expect students to participate and show a high degree of self regulation as part of their goals and learning expectations. Teachers will involve parents if classoom behaviors are disruptive to other students and create an unproductive learning environment. When parents are involved, the goal will be to collaboratively support the student so that the classroom learning environment can return to balance
