Appropriate School Attire when Not in Uniform
We acknowledge that it is difficult to precisely define exactly what is and what is not appropriate attire for school, so faculty and administration will continue to work with students to help develop a shared understanding. The following list describes some general guidelines that are intended to set a baseline for what we consider to be appropriate school attire for non-uniformed activities:
Attire should be comfortable, allowing students to concentrate on their learning and fostering positive relationships with their peers.
Clothing choices should be modest and considerate of others, ensuring that personal expression and boundaries do not make fellow students feel uncomfortable.
Students should refrain from pieces of clothing that present a safety hazard to the student or their peers, overtly revealing (no underwear showing, no midriff or chest showing), discriminatory or attire that otherwise demeans anyone
Apparel should adhere to safety guidelines for various classes, including art, design and technology, physical education, and science. This includes always wearing appropriate footwear throughout the school premises.
Any attire that could be in line with a "business casual" dress code, reflecting professionalism and appropriate workplace standards is a good starting point
Clothing choices should align with the traditional values and ideals that are exemplified through our uniform policy.
Casual Dress Down And Spirit Days
Casual Dress Down Days or Spirit Days are meant to be fun and a chance for students to be creative and unique with their style.
Students are typically granted every third or fourth Friday as a casual day
When wearing casual clothes, we want you to be able to express yourself as you see fit. We value that. However, we ask that you be respectful of InnovOak School as a learning environment and therefore anything overtly distracting or hazardous to the educational and developmental goals of the school is not permitted. This includes any pieces of clothing that present a safety hazard to the student or their peers, overtly revealing (no underwear showing, no midriff or chest showing), discriminatory or attire that otherwise demeans an identifiable individual or group.
No racist, derogatory, sexist or profane language on clothing is allowed.
We retain the right to send students home or require them to alter their clothing to uphold the educational goals of the school.
